On October 17, under the honorary patronage of Deputy Marshal of the Senate of the Republic of Poland Mr Bogdan Borusewicz and Chairman of the Parliamentary Mining and Energy Group of Mr Ireneusz The Profit was held a solemn celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Institute of Flow Machines of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
The ceremony was opened by Prof. Piotr Doerffer – Deputy Director of Scientific Affairs announcing the speech of the Director of IMP PAS - Prof. Dr. Jan Kiciński, PhD. 60 years of the Institute of Flow Machines in Gdańsk – past – present – future.
Professor Jan Kiciński in his speech reminded the beginnings of IMP PAN - a turbine institute, e.g. the achievement of the Virnik Machine Plant, the team of Prof. R. Szewalski and the designers of ZM ZAMECH in Elbląg - the first Polish steam turbine TP2 with a power of 2.3 MW. He presented research teams and scientific specialties represented in IMP PAN such as aerodynamics, hydrodynamics, SHM, small hydroelectrics, aerosflexibility, large-scale energy, steam micropower plants, biofuels, plasma, lasers and ecoenergy. and offer services concerning practical engineering problems, which the Institute deals with in addition to basic research.
The director also described how the Institute of Flow Machines in recent years significantly expanded its laboratory base with a unique research apparatus dedicated to the development of new production, storage and management technologies from renewable sources. A large part of this apparatus was purchased to the newly created KEZO Research Centre in Jabłonno - this infrastructure has great research potential to be used for IMP PAS and for the entire scientific community.
