The programme covers five strategic problem areas directly arising from the National Research Programme, consistent with the priorities of research currently carried out in the European Union and globally. These areas are:

• Food security and food security;
• rational management of natural resources with a particular focus on water management;
• Combating and adapting to climate change, with particular emphasis on agriculture;
• Protection of biodiversity and sustainable development of agricultural production space;
• Forestry and wood industry.

The main objective of the Programme is to develop knowledge in the areas of the Programme, leading to the growth of Poland's international position in research and development in this field, and transfer to the socio-economic environment of innovative solutions developed under the Programme.

The programme will stimulate innovation and competitiveness of the Polish economy. The results of the project programme will be the development and preparation of the implementation of new products, techniques and technologies and a whole range of other solutions applicable in areas covered by the programme.

The planned overall budget of the Programme, in which projects will be implemented in the years 2014-2019, including research, development and preparation activities, will amount to approximately PLN 500 million.
