On 27.01.2026, the Institute of Flow Machines PAS in Gdańsk (IMP PAN) signed a cooperation agreement with the Naval Academy of Heroes of Westerplatte in Gdynia (AMW). On behalf of IMP PAN, the agreement was signed by dr hab. Marcin Lackowski, prof. IMP PAN – Director of IMP PAN, and on behalf of AMW kadm. prof. dr hab. inż. Tomasz Szubrycht – Rector-Commander of AMW. The meeting was also attended by Dr Grzegorz Żywica, Professor IMP PAN – Deputy Director of Scientific Affairs and Prof. Jan Kiciński, Member of Koresp. PAN – Head of the Distributed Energy and RES Department. The AMW team also included Dr. Tomasz Kniaziewicz, Prof. AMW – Dean of the Mechanic-Electric Department and Mr.

The cooperation is of a framework nature and is an invitation to a permanent practical partnership: from common definition of research topics to project preparation and funding, to the organisation of seminars, workshops and scientific events. An important element of the agreement is the educational dimension – creating the conditions for developing the competences of students and young staff and building an environment conducive to the transfer of knowledge and experience between institutions.

The Naval Academy carries out teaching and scientific activities related to defence and security, including maritime security of the state, as well as developing competences and expert facilities for the marine environment. The combination of the potential of the military university and the Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences is intended to strengthen the capabilities of both parties in planning and conducting ambitious R & D projects and in effectively translating the results of these works into real applications. The agreement creates a permanent platform for cooperation, which will make it easier to combine scientific and engineering competences with the needs of the marine environment and widely understood state security.
