The Institute of Flow Machines of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Municipality of Przywidzód, Energia Operator and STAY-ON will jointly develop solutions integrating various elements of the energy system and new renewable energy production units for local communities. Activities will be carried out as part of the European SERENE project, co-financed by the EU under Horizon 2020.

- I'm sorry. Energy transformation is not only technology, but also new business models, new energy markets, but above all local, active self-government, company, citizen, which is part of this system. These issues are dealt with every day at the KEZO Research Centre, while within the framework of the projects carried out we leave laboratories and implement innovative solutions in the form of demonstrators on real objects, with the participation of industry, local governments and with local community – says Prof. dr hab. inż. Jan Kiciński Director of the Institute of Flow Machine PAS.

14 European Partners participate in the SERENE project. It will create demonstration areas in three European countries - Denmark, the Netherlands and Poland. The project received EU support of more than EUR 5 million.

The demonstration areas are those that include rural areas and smaller towns. In Poland it will be the Municipality of Przywidzód.

- I'm sorry. Participation in the project SERENE is a huge distinction for the small municipality of Przywidź. However, it seems to be fully justified, as this is not the first RES-related project, in which our municipality participates. For many years we have been a leader in promoting a low carbon economy, let me say more, zero emissions. In 2011, we installed 142 solar collector installations including 6 on public utility facilities. We carried out thermomodernisation of all public buildings, installing 10 heat pumps in them as a basic source of heating. We went one step further, this year in cooperation with Energy Lighting we managed to replace street lighting from soda to leek in the entire municipality. We have also completed the installation of 260 photovoltaic microinstallations on our residents' homes and 10 public utility buildings with a total power of over 1.6 MWp. I'm sure we won't stop there. Participation in such prestigious, international The project is the culmination of our long-term cooperation with the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Energy Group and the Energy Operator – says Marek Zimakowski Mayor of the Municipality of Przywód.

The main objective of the SERENE project is to provide local communities with the greatest energy self-sufficiency on the basis of renewable energy sources. The key to success will be the efficient integration of various energy media, such as heat and electricity, within a coherent system. The project will include, among other things, developing solutions for balancing the produced energy with its demand, using energy storage. With appropriate measurement, individual users of the energy community network will be able to contribute more consciously and actively to the functioning of the energy system. Taking into account the needs of the Distribution System Operator (OSD), the level of energy consumed will also be regulated by the entire energy community. The project will develop business solutions and models that will make energy network users interact, as well as OSDs beneficial and attractive to all parties.

- I'm sorry. Energy transformation has a significant change in the approach to managing distribution networks. Their operators will need to provide not only energy but also current information that will enable all users of the energy system to cooperate efficiently. It will be crucial to respond quickly to current needs and to coordinate all the activities attached to network of operators. Energa Operator, among others by participating in international projects, actively participates in the development of solutions necessary to carry out the energy transformation process in both Poland and Poland. in Europe – says Dr hab. Wiesław Jasinski Vice President of the Board of Energi Operator.

The creation of an internal energy market within the community, which will also be able to provide services to the OSD, will be supported by the construction of infrastructure for charging electric vehicles. The project will create at least three charging stations. Among other things, the model of use of electric vehicles in the replacement of a bus with diesel engine will be tested for the delivery of children to school, as well as the Vehicle technology is a grid, which involves using electric vehicles as energy storage.

Pilot solutions for smart building management, including air conditioning systems, heat pumps and electricity storage will be tested at the local school and kindergarten, to maximise the auto-consumption produced by solar panels.

- I'm sorry. Energy storage will be built in two innovative configurations. One in the so-called flow technology characterized, compared to other technologies, by a very long service life and safety of use. The second energy warehouse, made in mobile version, will ultimately serve as a temporary balancing system supporting local distribution networks equipped with RES installations. Everything will be controlled by a dedicated energy management system – This is Dr. Inż. Paweł Grabowski – Owner of STAY-ON

The use of energy from photovoltaic panels will also be optimised by the operation of a local sewage treatment plant and pumping plant. The plans also include the possibility of selling surplus electricity produced by buildings and its introduction into the energy grid.

The involvement of private individuals will be extremely important for the success of the project. Therefore, residents of the single-family housing estate with active photovoltaic installations will also participate in the activities.

The solutions developed in the demonstration areas will be analysed and assessed so that they can be used to identify energy transition trends in Europe.
