On 2 March 2012, a doctoral scholarship ceremony was held in the Gdańsk Science and Technology Park at 1 p.m. as part of the project "InnoDoktorant – scholarships for PhD students, 4th edition". Among the invited guests were: winners of the competition and their promoters, Rectors of Pomeranian universities, directors of scientific institutes, representatives of business and universities as well as Polish Academy of Sciences institutes from our voivodship. He presented scholarships to PhD students, on behalf of the Government of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, Mr. Marshal Mieczysław Struk.
This year the Management Board of the Pomeranian Voivodeship granted scholarships to sixty PhD students from our region, up to PLN 30 000 each. They were received by PhD students whose work is aimed at implementation and can contribute to the economic development of the voivodship. Scholarships are intended to help overcome financial barriers related to research and the acquisition of necessary materials, as well as to increase the level of access to knowledge and modern research methods. The main objective of the project is to support innovative processes in the regional economy through a system of support for doctoral scholarships in courses recognised as contributing to the strengthening of the competitiveness and economic development of Pomerania, as indicated in the Regional Innovation Strategy for Pomorskie Province.
PhD students who have an open doctoral course at universities or other scientific institutions located in the Pomorskie Voivodeship, qualified to give a doctoral degree, preparing doctoral work from disciplines and scientific specialties, listed as preferred to support in the Regional Innovation Strategy for Pomorskie Province, could apply for the scholarship.
The Department of Economic Development received 164 applications, from which 60 were selected, which were awarded scholarships. Among the winners, the highest number are PhD students from Gdańsk University of Technology – 32 awarded and Institute of Flow Machine PAS – 12 awarded, then PhD students of the University of Gdańsk – 9 awarded, Gdańsk Medical University – 4 people and Institute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Sciences – 3 awarded.
